Dental Examination & X-Rays
The best way to ensure that your child has excellent oral health is by coming to see us for an examination
A dental examination allows us to make sure everything is healthy and happy, and during these visits we are able to catch any problems early on (if any). It is best to see if there are issues as early as possible in order to prevent them from developing into more serious oral problems. Your child (and their teeth) are growing rapidly, so we recommend a dental check-up every six months.
During an exam, we check for cavities, swollen gums, signs of infection, and tooth damage. We also make sure that your child’s mouth is developing and growing properly. The earlier we catch any jaw/mouth developmental problems, the quicker and easier it is for us to make corrections.
Another tool we utilize during an examination may be x-rays. X-rays are a useful diagnostic tool for us to check for any oral health problems and for us to monitor growth and development. For example, x-rays allow us to spot tiny cavities when they are too tiny to be seen by other means and before they are able to widen and deepen!
Safety is always a priority at Bethesda Dental Specialties, which is why we use high-speed film and digital technology for minimal radiation exposure. Dental x-rays for children are extremely safe, and we make sure all of our patients wear protective lead aprons prior to the x-ray.
